History

In 2005 we had an idea; in 2009 we had our inaugural Fair; and in May 2011, we are planning to present to the citizens of Harnett County and surrounding areas the best Spring fair in the state!

We certainly hope you had an opportunity to visit the Fair in November 2009. Our goal was to have a true agricultural fair. We are very proud of all our volunteers and their hard work. The decorations were first class, the entertainment was nonstop, and the livestock shows were second to none. the exhibits were “best in show”, the rides were thrilling, and antique tractors and farm equipment provided an opportunity for the audience to re-live farm life from the past.

Volunteers spent hundreds of hours and countless meetings organizing, preparing the grounds, fundraising, and promoting what turned out to be one of Harnett County’s top agri-tourism events. We were pleased that local businesses benefited from the increased number of visitors to our county and we are very excited to report that over $4000 was given back to the community in the form of awarded prizes and premiums.

Our thanks go to the Harnett County School Board, principals, and school staff for their support. Students entered competitions and took home blue ribbons for their efforts. Central Carolina Community College made us aware of how our local crops could become the common fuel for future generations and 4-H clubs and FFA groups planted gardens, laid brick, and set up displays promoting not only agriculture but education too.

We were very fortunate to have the support of our County Commissioners, local business owners, and everyday people in the community who thought a Fair was a great idea and supported it in many ways. Our future goal is to have permanent fairground property with buildings and facilities that can be used year-round.

The Fair Board has already begun planning for our next Fair. The committees are formed, and the fundraisers are being planned.
